Take a team of volunteers, place in six living-area modules, lock-up for 500 days and see what happens! It could be a reality-TV show but it’s a scientific experiment to investigate all the problems, particularly psychological, of a mission to the Red Planet. This short film for ESA (which is taking part in this international project) includes archive material from two earlier long-duration experiments carried out in Moscow in 1968 and 1999. The Mars-500 simulation is due to take place in 2008.
